2010 Hajek Motorsports E-85 Mustang

2010 Hajek Motorsports E-85 Mustang

Danny Thompson with Hajek Motorsports' 2008 E-85 Mustang at the Bonneville Salt Flats.

2008 E-85 Mustang Background

In August of 2008, Hajek Motorsports took an E-85 converted Mustang FR500C to the Bonneville Salt Flats in search of the land speed record for an Ethanol-powered car.  With Danny Thompson behind the wheel, they achieved a top speed of 252.78 MPH—becoming  the fastest production-based Mustang on the planet!

In May of 2009, that same car was reconfigured to stock car specifications, including a custom-built Flaming River Manual Rack & Pinion steering system, and taken to Talladega Superspeedway to tackle the closed-course speed record.  Jumping behind the wheel was none other than Legendary NASCAR driver Bill Elliott–who set a new course record by clocking in at over 170 MPH!

Introducing the 2010 E-85 Mustang

Introducing the 2010 E-85 Mustang

Starting from scratch with an FR500 body, the team once again built an eco-friendly car powered by Rockett Brand E-85 ethanol fuel, and made of soy-based body components and soy-based paint.

The Hajek team was impressed with Flaming River's custom-made Manual Rack & Pinion steering system and opted to use this system again to steer the 2010 E-85 Mustang in Bonneville at the SCTA / BNI World Finals - October 7-10, 2009.

With Danny Thompson behind the wheel, they broke their previous record of 252.78 MPH and set a new land speed world record (for a production-based Mustang) by clocking in at over 258 MPH!
