The Flaming River power rack is the first new power rack designed with the street rodder in mind. The rack is only sold with the pump and pulley (available in V-belt or serpentine style) so the system is properly calibrated. The rack uses the Mustang II 16" center mounts, the FR1601 outer ends and, of course is dimensionally interchangeable with the 74-78 rack. However, the similarity ends there: this rack is an all new unit so the quality is very consistent. This new design features a partial chromed housing for an attractive cosmetic appearance. Rack is designed for maximum front end vehicle weight of 1,750 lbs.
The system includes: New power rack and pinion, pump with aluminum pulley installed (v-belt or serpentine) and fittings for connecting hoses, which can be easily connected to the hose kit of your choice (hoses and u-joint not included).
Additional items required for installation no included in kit are: power steering lines, mounting brackets for pump, remote reservoir and pyramid universal joint offered by Flaming River.
The variable pressure pump included with the rack makes the system truly unique. The pump is designed to peak at idle for ease of steering in parking situations and pressure reduces at highway speeds (approximately 2,000 rpm) to improve handling characteristics of the vehicle on the highway. This eliminates the "squirelley" oversteer commonly encountered when using rebuilt power racks.
Steering system has been designed to operate with a 1750 lbs front end weight, and 225 width tires. Any variation will change the steering torque.
